Bus Users UK has announced the appointment of Lydia Horbury as its new Chief Executive. She succeeds Claire Walters, who will retire in October after more than a decade at the helm.
Lydia is currently Director for England at the organisation. She will formerly take up her new role on 13 October. Her appointed comes as the charity celebrates its 50th anniversary and continues its work advocating for accessible and inclusive coach and bus services across the UK.
Since joining Bus Users UK in 2023, Lydia has served on the Department for Transport’s Steering Group on Enhanced Partnerships, and held several governance and advisory positions across stakeholder and industry bodies. She has been closely involved in the charity’s drive to improve access to transport, especially for underserved communities.
Says Chair of Bus Users UK Jennie Martin MBE: “The Board of Trustees congratulates Lydia on her appointment. Claire has been a transformative Chief Executive since 2013. The Board looks forward to working with Lydia to build on this legacy and keep Bus Users UK at the forefront of advocating for better availability and accessibility of bus and coach services for all.”
Adds Lydia: “Taking on the role of Chief Executive at Bus Users UK is an honour, particularly as we commemorate our 50th anniversary. This is a powerful milestone for a charity that has championed the rights and voices of passengers for half a century.
