Optibus has now placed its public transport planning and scheduling platform into 2,000 cities worldwide, the Israel-headquartered business has announced. It has come after Austrian operator Dr Richard Linien took up the package, bringing Vienna and other cities into the Optibus network.

The development represents a doubling of Optibus’s reach in the past nine months, when Chilean capital Santiago become the 1,000th city for the supplier. Optibus says it is now present in 30 countries globally with an aspiration to take its platform further, explains CEO and Co-Founder Amos Haggiag.

“Public transport exists in every major city in every country. Optibus’s mission is to serve all those cities by making advanced technologies more accessible and applicable to local public transport operations.

“Reaching 2,000 cities is an exciting milestone for us in this mission, and we are excited to make a positive impact in these places with many more to come,” adds Mr Haggiag.

Dr Richard is a key player in the Vienna city region. It is looking to expand its operation over coming years and introduce zero-emission buses, while at the same time upgrading its depots. Such work will require updates to services and schedules.

Optibus says that leveraging the “powerful technologies” behind its software will allow planners and schedulers to benefit from a faster and easier work process in adjusting networks. “The result for Dr Richard will be a more environmentally sustainable operation and better efficiency for passengers,” Optibus adds.

Comments Dr Richard CEO Werner Gumprecht: “Public transport is at the centre of the mobility market. Demand for services is only growing. By investing in innovation, technology and our employees, we give our staff the tools and knowledge needed to meet today’s and future challenges, and create an impact on the lives of passengers and drivers in cities across Austria.”
