Jersey operator LibertyBus is trialling an Alexander Dennis Enviro400EV demonstrator to evaluate the suitability of battery-electric vehicles on route 15 between the island’s airport and St Helier.

Six Enviro400 diesel double-deckers are already part of the Tower Transit subsidiary’s fleet. The owning group recently secured a further 10-year contract to operate bus services on the island until 2035, with addition of more zero-emission vehicles part of that agreement.

Alexander Dennis has already demonstrated its Enviro100EV battery-electric small bus on adjacent Guernsey. The double-decker under evaluation by LibertyBus is a 73-seater with 472kWh of energy storage.

It will first be used on out-of-service trials before entering service on route 15. Tower Transit Regional Director Kevin Hart says that the operator is looking forward to receiving feedback from customers following that deployment.

Alexander Dennis National Account Manager Shaun Millar adds: “We are pleased to have made the next-generation Enviro400EV available for this trial by Tower Transit in Jersey.

“We expect that ‘the crowd shifter’ will perform well with its comfortable passenger experience and outstanding energy efficiency. We are really looking forward to the feedback from Tower Transit, which will help us to further refine our Enviro400EV.”
