McGill’s Buses agrees new Effitires contract with Michelin

McGill’s Buses has extended its 19-year relationship with Michelin by signing a new Effitires contract with Michelin Services and Solutions. The deal cover McGill’s entire fleet, which expanded to 650 vehicles in late 2020 with the purchase of Xplore Dundee.

Michelin has been supplying and managing tyres for McGill’s since 2002. Key to the Effitires deal was sustainable mobility, the operator says. Under the arrangement, all tyres will be managed through a multi-life policy.

Michelin technicians will regroove worn tyres on site once the tread depth reaches 3-4mm. When the regroove has worn, the tyres will be retreaded at Michelin’s plant in Stoke-on-Trent. That process saves natural resources and doubles the casing’s lifespan, says the supplier. All worn casings follow Michelin’s stringent environmental disposal programme.

Comments McGill’s Buses Engineering Director Russell Henderson: “We have worked with Michelin for many years on our tyre solution and we are very happy to be able to continue that partnership as our fleet expands.

“The communication between the two companies is seamless and that is the key to the success. The new contract offers us the best value and quality product for our team.”

He adds that through Michelin’s casing management policy, McGill’s can gain additional mileage from tyres and reduce its environmental impact.

As part of the Effitires deal with McGill’s, Michelin will fit predominantly urban bus tyres across its fleet. All X InCity HL Z casings have reinforced sidewalls to protect against kerbing and other damage, while some smaller buses will receive the latest generation X Multi Z and D tyres. The operator also specifies Michelin tyres on new vehicles.
