National Express expands provision as rebuild continues

National Express has restored more of its scheduled coach network as it continues to rebuild from an 11-week temporary closure at the beginning of the year.

The operator says that during week commencing 2 August, the number of services it will run is to be 21% higher than in the previous week. Inter-city departure numbers will rise by 20% while services to Stansted Airport will grow by 150% as a half-hourly timetable is introduced.

National Express UK Coach Commercial Director John Boughton adds that the business is seeing “growing demand” for scheduled coach travel. The uplift in services has generated a recruitment push across the group’s businesses, including for drivers, customer service advisors and support function roles.

Adds Mr Boughton: “This is all good news for the UK economy. With increased services comes job creation, and travel boosts tourism and hospitality. It feels good to be playing a part in getting the UK’s economy back on its feet.”

National Express UK Coach recently announced that it is investing at least ÂŁ1m in a summer marketing campaign to promote its network.
