Kingstown Works Ltd/Hull City Council have purchased 12 Mercedes-Benz Sprinters with Strata High Floor bodies, supplied by Mellor.

The minibuses will be used primarily to provide accessible transport for young people with disabilities. 16 seated passenger can be carried, or a maximum of seven wheelchair users plus two seated passengers thanks to a rear-mounted lift.

Kingston Works Ltd has funded the vehicles and they are on a comprehensive contract hire arrangement inclusive of maintenance. Hull City Council Portfolio Holder for Transportation, Roads and Highways Cllr Mark Ieronimo says that the Mellor Strata minibuses will allow young people with disabilities in the city to travel in more comfort.

“There is also air-conditioning, which will provide a much nicer environment,” adds Cllr Ieronimo. “This shows that the council is committed to looking after our young people, particularly those who have disabilities, and making sure that their journeys to school are much more pleasant.”

Portfolio Holder for Children’s Services Cllr Linda Tock notes that the local authority believes accessible transport “will remove barriers to education for young people with disabilities and enable them to reach their full potential.”
