The popular driver contest returns to Blackpool next weekend with 100 competitors

Last year’s Final was the 50th in the competition’s long history

The National Final of the UK Bus Driver of the Year 2017 will take place in Blackpool on Sunday 3 September.

Entries have been rolling in from operators large and small, with 100 top drivers from all over the country due to compete.

Last year’s Bus Driver of the Year, Craig Lockyer from National Express West Midlands, will be defending his title against challengers employed by all the major bus groups, municipal operators and smaller companies.

The 2016 National Final marked 50 years of BDoY, which was first run in 1967 as a local contest in Coventry and subsequently grew into a national event.

Joe Mackie, Chairman of the UK Bus Driver of the Year Association, says that after celebrating the competition's half-century, the BDoY team are looking forward to welcoming new competitors and previous finalists to Blackpool.

He says: “We are very proud to have marked our half-century and, once again, the National Final will be a fantastic place for operators of all sizes to showcase their drivers’ skills and especially their commitment to excellent customer service.”
