Everybody matters: Improving diversity across the industry

Senior leaders across transport use Everybody Matters to campaign for inclusion and industry promotion

Senior leaders from within transport and logistics are targeting diversity, inclusion and better industry promotion with a new campaign, Everybody Matters.

A roundtable event led collaboratively by the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) in the UK and by the sector itself set goals to cover three areas: Nurturing talent; raising awareness with activities and initiatives; and a co-ordinated outreach programme.

Addressing diversity is one of the key aims, CILT says. More than 2.9 million people are represented by CILT. The organisation says the new campaign will improve support for existing and future talent while addressing skill shortages.

The campaign will be launched in 2020 and will be supported by a range of companies, including Transport for London, FirstGroup, Abellio, Go-Ahead, National Express and Stagecoach. Ambassadors will be nominated to represent the profession and provide support in addition to that given by their respective companies.

Managing Director of Dawsongroup Bus and Coach Paul Sainthouse chaired the event alongside CILT President Sir Peter Hendy.

He says: “For far too long the transport and logistics sector has quietly gone about its business without spelling out to broader society how much it has contributed to the world in which they live.

“I am excited that this initiative will be a fantastic mechanism for drawing fresh new talent into the profession while raising the profile of those already engaged in it.”
