Go North East (GNE) last week (4 November) celebrated its 233 engineers on ‘This is Engineering Day’ to recognise the hard work they do in keeping the fleet moving.

As part of the celebrations the company recognised the role its apprenticeship scheme had to play. The company says around 90% of its engineers began as apprentices.

Working in partnership with Gateshead College. the company currently has 19 engineering apprentices working across the North East who develop skills one day a week at Gateshead’s £5.5m Skills Acadamy for Automotive, Engineering, Manufacturing and Logistics.

Boosting this, the company reveals it has recently invested £12m into new depots in Gateshead and Consett alongside further investment into new vehicles to ensure its team works with the latest technology.

Go North East Engineering Director Colin Barnes says: “The team I have here at Go North East do an exceptional job in making sure that our buses are safe and ready for service.

“They are a hardworking, conscientious team who have adapted well over the coronavirus crisis and I can’t thank them enough for their efforts in helping keep the wheels moving on our buses for the people of the North East.”
