Operator Grant Palmer is marking over 10 years of traffic-free journeys on the Luton to Dunstable guided busway with the production of a promotional film developed using funding from the Bus Service Improvement Plan allocation to Central Bedfordshire Council.

The GP Challenge sees former professional motorcycle and truck racer and motorsport commentator Steve Parrish take on Graham Storey, one of the independent bus operator’s most experienced drivers.

Mr Parrish and passenger tackle traffic between Dunstable and Luton in his classic motorcycle plus sidecar. Mr Storey uses the busway. The bus wins the race and Mr Storey is seen to have time for a coffee while he waits for his competitor.

Grant Palmer Commercial Manager Thomas Manship says that such a result demonstrates how bus is the best mode of travel between the two towns thanks to the segregated roadway. Journeys take as little as 12 minutes and vehicles can reach up to 50mph.

Adds Mr Manship: “We have been successfully operating on the guided busway for over 10 years. Our professional drivers, high capacity double-deck buses, and traffic-free journeys between Luton and Dunstable have meant that we are the best way to travel.”
