London coach parking during mourning ‘being finalised’

Work is underway involving four trade bodies that represent the coach industry to define parking arrangements in London during the period of national mourning following the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

The Coach Tourism Association, the Confederation of Passenger Transport, RHA and the UK Coach Operators Association have issued a joint statement outlining their united position on work to secure sufficient parking. They add that availability of existing spaces may change at short notice depending on the timetable of events assembled over coming days.

The trade body collective is liaising with Transport for London “to finalise arrangements for coaches entering the capital and locations to set down and pick up passengers, and to park.” They note that the capital “will become a focal point for many people who wish to pay their respects” and report that demand for coach hire to London is expected to be high.

Coach operators have been advised that some parking restrictions are already in place in London. Bays on Park Lane and Victoria Embankment may be required for other purposes during the mourning period and leading to the funeral. The organisations add that other bays in the central area “may also close at short notice.”

On alternatives, it has been suggested that coach passengers could be set down outside central London in a location where they can continue via rail. Further information will be shared when it comes available, with the first expected early in week commencing 12 September.
