Metroline will celebrate Caribbean culture and heritage at the Notting Hill Carnival this Bank Holiday weekend (24-25 August) with a specially wrapped bus.
As part of a wider partnership with Transport for London, the bus will feature steel pan music performances by local community group Phoenix Rising on Sunday, the first day of the carnival.
Sean O’Shea, CEO of Metroline, says: “We are proud to support Transport for London and Phoenix Rising at this year’s Notting Hill Carnival in celebration of London’s Caribbean community, who have played a key role both in Metroline’s workforce and the communities we serve over many years.”
Phoenix Rising provides support and guidance to disadvantaged people in Brent, northwest London. Among its programmes is the teaching of young people to play steel pan, which originated in the Caribbean.
Patrick McKay, Phoenix Rising’s St Michael and All Angels Steel Orchestra Lead, adds: “At Phoenix Rising we believe that everyone deserves the support and the provision of opportunities to thrive in life.
“Through our participation in Europe’s largest street festival, St Michael and All Angels Steel Orchestra has enabled the Caribbean-inspired steel pan artists the opportunity to perform to the millions of attendees, inspiring the confidence to aspire, and achieve.”
