Southern Vectis fund supports Wessex Cancer Trust

Southern Vectis is using its community fund to provide discounted bus travel to the Wessex Cancer Trust’s wellbeing centre in Newport, which assists people on the Isle of Wight who are living with cancer.

A code has been created in the Southern Vectis app to allow ad-hoc half-price day tickets to be provided to clients of the wellbeing centre. It provides support for anyone affected by a cancer diagnosis. Services include befriending, counselling and therapies along with practical and emotional support. All are delivered free of charge.

The community fund is a Go South Coast initiative across each of its subsidiaries. It acts as a resource to support local causes, charities and organisations. The concept was launched in 2019, and in addition to funding, operators also make available support in kind. Recipients are identified by “an impartial board from the wider Go South Coast team,” Southern Vectis says.

Adds Southern Vectis General Manager Richard Tyldsley: “Our community fund is designed to support charities, groups, schools and organisations across the Isle of Wight – and Wessex Cancer Trust’s island cancer support centre is an excellent example of this.

“Cancer affects people across the Isle of Wight from all walks of life at some point – including members of our own team. I couldn’t think of a more worth recipient of our latest community fund allocation.”
