74-year-old Stagecoach Manchester driver Ian Robertson is celebrating 55 years of service with the operator.

Currently working as a driver for Stagecoach Manchester, Ian counts 19 years as a driver trainer among his accolades.

Ian started his bus driving career at the age of 17 in 1965, where he washed buses at North Western. Soon after he became a conductor for North Western, which latterly became Stagecoach Manchester, and besides a short three-week hiatus, Ian stayed with the industry.

“Since I was a small boy, I have always loved buses, so a career in bus travel just made sense,” Ian says. “It’s given me a good standard of living and I have also met a lot of very friendly people along the way. I have even worked alongside some family members which was a great experience.”

Adds Managing Director of Stagecoach Manchester Lee Wasnidge: “55 years’ service is an incredible achievement! I want to extend a huge thank you to Ian from myself and the entire team at Stagecoach Manchester for his dedication and hard work spanning across five decades.”
