Stagecoach East Scotland is introducing 16 new Alexander Dennis Enviro400EV to its 73 service on the Tayway network in Arbroath.
The battery-electric buses will replace the 18 hybrids put into service on that route in 2015.
Six more Enviro400EV are due to arrive at the Arbroath depot later this year for use on the linked 72 service.
The 73 operates hourly between Arbroath, Dundee city centre and Ninewells Hospital, while the 72 runs between Arbroath and Ninewells every 30 minutes.
The buses will come with next-stop announcements in line with new PSV Accessible Information Regulations.
The operator is to hold an open event for the public on 18 July to mark the service improvements.
Sarah Elliott, Commercial Director for Stagecoach East Scotland, says: “We’re absolutely thrilled to introduce our new electric double deck buses on the Tayway route.
“These state-of-the-art Enviro400 EVs offer a quieter, smoother, and more environmentally friendly journey, giving our customers a truly upgraded travel experience between Arbroath and Dundee.”
“This is just the beginning. We’re looking forward to rolling out more electric buses across our Tayway network later this year — so watch this space! It’s all part of our commitment to deliver cleaner, greener, and more modern transport for communities across East Scotland.”
