The Aberdeen and District Transport Preservation Trust will stage its first open day since before the COVID-19 pandemic on Sunday 14 August. It will be held in the grounds of the Grampian Transport Museum at Alford, Aberdeenshire, between 1100-1600hrs and will include a display of, and rides on, heritage vehicles.

Trustee and former First Aberdeen Managing Director George Mair adds that while the event is being held by the Aberdeen and District Transport Preservation Trust, the museum will also be open to visitors. Organisers are in contact with museum officials to discuss ticketing that may reduce the cost of museum entry.

Mr Mair adds that as many of the Trust’s vehicles will be used as possible, as well as some from the FirstGroup Heritage Trust.

Among those that could work are an Albion from the 1930s (pictured, right), various AECs including a Swift and a Reliance, a Leyland National, Atlantean, Olympian, Leopard or a Tiger from 1951 (pictured, left), a 1965 Daimler CVG6 and a Mercedes-Benz O405G articulated bus. In addition, visiting vehicles that are still to be confirmed will be present.

“We had to cancel our open days scheduled for 2020 and 2021 due to COVID-19, which was clearly very disappointing,” he continues. “It has really got us all very excited and looking forward to holding our 2022 open day, where we hope to see a large turnout as it is a free to enter event.”
