Borders Buses offers bike transport on E200s

Borders Buses is proceeding with the introduction of Scotland’s first widespread bike-accessible bus network as part of a £3.25m initiative.

It has introduced 10 Alexander Dennis Enviro200s, each of which has two onboard bike racks. They also have a high-quality specification that includes leather seats and audio-visual passenger information systems, along with mobile phone holders.

The Enviro200s follow a pilot scheme last year to assess demand for bike carriage between Peebles and Edinburgh. They are being used on routes between the Scottish capital and Berwick via Dunbar; Carlisle via Galashiels; and Galashiels via Peebles. 10 more will follow by the end of February 2020.

Says Borders Buses MD Colin Craig: “We see bus as part of the active travel solution. This initiative introduces a fantastic new dimension to sustainable greener travel. We recognise that cyclists are prepared to ditch their cars for our bike and bus combination.”
