National Express scheduled coaches to be suspended

The entire National Express scheduled coach network will be suspended from midnight on Sunday 5 April. The operator says the move is being made as it is no longer viable to continue operating a limited number of services.

“Passenger numbers continue to fall as the public rightly follows government advice to avoid non-essential travel,” says National Express UK Coach Managing Director Chris Hardy. “The decision to temporarily suspend services is the right one based on the current unprecedented circumstances.”

Mr Hardy adds that all journeys before Monday 6 April will be completed and that the company will ensure that no customers are stranded.

Affected passengers have been given the option to rebook their travel plans for a later date or receive a refund.

Adds Mr Hardy: “Our drivers, customer service teams, customer contact centre and the wider National Express team have been working incredibly hard to keep our services running safely. We thank them for their efforts.” No date has been given by National Express for the resumption of suspended services.

The announcement closely follows Stagecoach in Oxfordshire’s decision to suspend its Oxford Tube coach service beyond Sunday 5 April.
