Cardiff Bus has named former military man Craig Hampton-Stone as its incoming Manager Director. He will succeed Paul Dyer, who is to retire from the municipal business at the end of September.
Mr Hampton-Stone is a South Wales native and he joins from Mace Group in the construction and consultancy sector, where for the last two years he has worked on a variety of infrastructure and public sector programmes.
Prior to his time with Mace Group, Mr Hampton-Stone spent over 26 years in the military. That culminated with his leadership of one of the Army’s largest logistic regiments.
Mr Dyer has headed Cardiff Bus for almost four years. Like Mr Hampton-Stone, he brought external experience of logistics to the role, having previously been UK and Ireland CEO of DHL Supply Chain. Chair of the Board at the operator Chris Lay has thanked Mr Dyer for his contribution and welcomed Mr Hampton-Stone to the business.
“I am confident that Craig will seamlessly transition into his new role, supporting the team and further developing the company strategy to effectively navigate through the uncertainties surrounding the industry at this current time,” adds Mr Lay.
In addition to an uncertain future funding landscape for buses in Wales, Mr Hampton-Stone also joins the business at a time that the Welsh Government is focused on the reregulation of bus services across the country despite uncertainty around how that will be paid for.
Speaking about his arrival, Mr Hampton-Stone says: “It is a real honour for me to be taking up this appointment. It is clear that Paul and the team have done a tremendous job in developing the company, particularly on a pathway towards a greener and more sustainable fleet, and I look forward to keeping that momentum going.”
