GNE Operations Managers raise over £2,000 for NHS in head shave

Two Go North East (GNE) Operations Managers have raised £2200 for NHS toiletries by shaving their hair off.

Deptford Depot Operations Manager Will Sewell began the stunt. His initial target of £100 target was quickly surpassed when £500 was raised within two days.

GNE’s Deptford, Peterlee, Washington and Chester-le-Street depots all contributed as word of the cause spread. Funds came in from all GNE staff, including the company directors and workers’ families.

After £1,100 had been raised, Washington Depot Operations Manager Jeff Hodgson joined Will in shaving his head – and was encouraged to wear a Sunderland football shirt, being a Newcastle supporter.

Now the pair have raised £2,200.

Jeff says: “We both committed to this due to the NHS hospitals crying out for toiletries. We wanted to contribute in a small way – the total of £2,200 was never envisaged.”

The toiletries will be delivered in a bus modified specifically for the NHS. Bottled water is also being donated by a local business.

Will and Jeff are continuing to raise money during the ongoing pandemic.
