Go North West has appointed Martyn Walsh to its new role of Head of Engineering to oversee maintenance of its fleet of nearly 500 buses.

The move comes as Go North West expands to run services in Bolton and Wigan as part of the new Transport for Greater Manchester Bee Network.

Having won the first two franchises on the network, the company will double the size of its business when it takes on two new depots in September alongside its existing operations at Queens Road, Manchester.

Martyn started out with Arriva in 2010 as an electrical apprentice in Southport and worked his way up through the company at depots across Merseyside and Wales. Most recently, he was Engineering Manager at Speke depot, the largest in the UK outside London.

He says: “Leading the engineering team at Go North West as it transforms from a one- depot deregulated operator to a multi-depot franchise-holder is a huge privilege.  I’m really excited to be joining the company at such a pivotal moment.

“I am particularly looking forward to welcoming on board the many new engineering colleagues who will be joining Go-Ahead under the franchise process.  I can assure them of a warm welcome.  I am also looking forward to working with the excellent team at Transport for Greater Manchester.”

Go North West Managing Director, Nigel Featham, adds: “It’s fantastic to have somebody as talented as Martyn joining Go North West. I am proud that Go-Ahead is attracting some of the very best people across the industry to work for us in the new world of franchising.

“Our engineering colleagues work tirelessly, day in, day out to keep the wheels turning, and I know Martyn will bring huge energy and professionalism with him for the big task that lies ahead of us.”
