Greater Manchester’s youngest bus driver

Jamie Jackson, 18, is the youngest bus driver in the region after joining Stagecoach Manchester.

Jamie left school less than 18 months ago and has passed his regular driving test and bus examinations since. He now operates buses around Wigan and Manchester.

He says: “I’ve wanted to be a bus driver since primary school and unlike a lot of my friends I’ve always been quite consistent in what I wanted to do.

“I’m just happy to be here, I love driving buses and all things engines. I want to use the money I get from working to buy a motorhome and go travelling around the UK.”

He is the latest member of his family to get into the bus industry. His dad, Stuart Jackson, has driven buses for the past 20 years; his grandad, Rolan Silcox, recently retired from an inspector role; and his uncle, Andrew Silcox, is a forward allocator.

Stagecoach Manchester Managing Director, Elisabeth Tasker says: “Jamie is the youngest driver in Greater Manchester and it’s testament to his skill that he’s flown through his exams, we’re delighted to have him.”
