Brexit: The things we need to consider now

I read the article by Sam Murray-Hinde [routeone/Law/20 February] with interest.

If we had declared that we were dropping out of the EU under WTO rules unless a better proposal was made by the EU immediately after the referendum, we would be in a far better position now having taken a position of strength.

But there are things we need to consider and that are low cost:

  • Encourage drivers to buy an International Driving Permit for £6.50 from the Post Office
  • Push your insurer to provide Green Cards in time, just in case
  • If your trailers are over 750kg, register them now
  • Make sure your waybills are accurate and enter one pair of cities per line to avoid fines
  • Make sure you have the correct LEZ registrations and that your drivers are registered under the various minimum wage schemes.

The EU has agreed that flights will not be grounded, and the pharmaceutical industry has explained that medicine shortages would be nothing to do with Brexit, but the NHS's unwillingness to bid higher prices.

They say the blaming on Brexit is "project fear", just like the reason Nissan and Honda emphasised that its issues are not Brexit related, but international market shrinkage.
