Senior TC’s statutory guidance documents revised

Senior TC Turfitt: Statutory Guidance documents have been revised

All except one of the Senior Traffic Commissioner’s (STC) Statutory Guidance documents have been updated following a consultation of stakeholders. The only document to stay the same is the one concerning vocational drivers.

Revisions include:

  • New guidance on the importance of continuous professional development
  • Clearer guidance on what will happen of an O-Licence is used without authority (fronting)
  • Greater emphasis on the importance of accurate applications
  • A new section on support for tribunal users
  • Updated guidance on what happens when periods of grace expire
  • A new section on driver employment status.

Says STC Richard Turfitt: “It is important that we get the balance right and that irresponsible parties, who ignore the safety of others, do not put compliant businesses at a disadvantage.

“On this occasion, the majority of changes are dictated by case law rather than a debate on policy. There is a heavy emphasis on providing continuity but the responses to the consultation have helped us to try and clarify our approach to regulation.”
