Parksafe launches Low Bridge Detection System

Parksafe has launched its Low Bridge Detection System (LBDS). The UK designed and manufactured product uses GPS location data and geofencing to warn drivers via LED-enhanced alerts and an audible warning system of upcoming low bridges.

The supplier says that LBDS requires zero driver input, with the height and width of the vehicle set at the point of installation.

Alerts are generated automatically, with Parksafe adding that mitigating bridge strikes can be beneficial to an operator’s repute and compliance history. Traffic Commissioner Kevin Rooney noted in late 2020 that operators have “a big part to play” in the prevention of such incidents.

The Low Bridge Detection System can be used as a standalone product, powered by the vehicle’s cigarette lighter socket, or alternatively it can be deployed as part of the Parksafe On Demand online platform. That provides operators with instant remote alerts and on-demand access to their fleet 24/7.

Complementing other automotive technology and safety products in the Parksafe range, LBDS has been subject to “rigorous and comprehensive testing,” the supplier says.

Also forming part of the product’s specification are:

  • False alert feedback communication
  • Remote communication and updates
  • Detection of up to 3,750 bridges
  • A 300 square metre alert zone
  • Multiple attempts to advise driver to stop the vehicle.
