ShuttleID expands scope for ‘part-week’ school bus ticket sales

ShuttleID has “lots of plans” to further develop its home-to-school and home-to-work coach and bus ticketing platform to build on the recent introduction of Brickets and diversification into the local authority market, the supplier said at Euro Bus Expo.

Brickets allows ‘brick’ phones to display QR codes, while the local authority expansion enables those organisations to handle ticketing for contracted services.

A coming development will permit parents to buy a pass across a term or a year where a child does not travel to and from school via the service five days per week.

“We have always had the capacity to sell day-by-day tickets individually, but we will offer parents the opportunity to do that on a longer-term basis,” says ShuttleID Director Chris Bell.

“It is to maximise the number of seats a school or an operator can sell. It is also convenient for parents where they know that a child will travel consistently for fewer than five days per week; they will be able to buy a term- or year-long pass just for Monday and Tuesday, for example.”

Under the new arrangement, passes for five days’ travel will be accounted for first, with spare capacity then falling to those wishing to travel on fewer days.

Mr Bell adds that ShuttleID has “lot of ideas” for the platform. On the recent expansion into the local authority space, he says that more confirmed customers there are in the pipeline beyond the two that have already adopted it in the States of Guernsey and Northumberland County Council.

“Suddenly we saw a big uptick in enquiries from local authorities. We originally created the platform for small coach and bus operators, before expanding into the staff shuttle segment and then to working with schools and colleges direct. Local authorities are thus a new market for us, and we are pleased with how things are going so far.”
